Formal Opening with Ribbon-cutting Ceremony Scheduled May 22 for Coastal Compass Education & Career Resource Center at La Palmera Mall
Facility designed to help Coastal Bend residents “discover their direction” while preparing for college or workforce or using services to improve quality of life.
Come on in. The doors are open. Partners of the Coastal Compass Education & Career Resource Center have a mission … to provide area residents with “Direction for Success.” Individuals can now access free services leading them to the resources they need to pursue higher education, job placement or life-changing skills.
To formally open Coastal Compass, partners will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. Corpus Christi Mayor Nelda Martinez will provide remarks, along with representatives from each of the Coastal Compass partners. The public is invited to participate and take tours of the center, which is located in Suite 1082 at La Palmera Mall (5488 South Padre Island Drive).
Coastal Compass is a non-profit organization that assists with financial aid, admissions and job placement. If thinking about higher education, individuals can learn about certification and skills training programs, degrees ranging from associate to baccalaureate and masters levels, reverse transfer and dual enrollment programs and more. If job hunting, residents can access computerized job banks and complete applications, take aptitude tests and review career interest inventories as well as engage in Career-Ready certification or on-the-job training.
The center also offers life-changing services for individuals not quite ready to tackle higher education or job placement. A variety of services include access to adult literacy programs, General Education Development or high school equivalency preparation, instruction in English as a second language, an early leadership initiative for youth and summer career exploration activities.
Partners for this initiative include Citizens for Educational Excellence, Education to Employment Partners, Del Mar College, the City of Corpus Christi, the Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the Corpus Christi Independent School District and the Corpus Christi Literacy Council.
